Hydraulic Operating System for Filter Press

The hydraulic operating system is an essential part of a filter press. It controls the closing, clamping, and opening of the filter plates. The system consists of three main components: a Hydraulic Cylinder, Hydraulic Power Pack, and Electrical Control Panel.

Hydraulic Cylinder

Function: Plate Closing and Clamping

The hydraulic cylinder generates the force required to close and clamp the filter plates.

• Moves the moving head to close the filter plate pack.
• Applies the required clamping force during filtration.
• Helps prevent slurry leakage between plates when properly clamped.
• Retracts to release the plates after filtration is completed.

Hydraulic Power Pack

Function: Hydraulic Pressure and Oil Flow

The hydraulic power pack supplies pressurized hydraulic oil to operate the cylinder.

• Consists of an electric motor, hydraulic pump, oil tank, valves, and pressure gauge.
• Supplies hydraulic oil to extend and retract the cylinder.
• Controls oil flow and direction through hydraulic valves.
• Provides the required pressure for plate closing and clamping.

Electrical Control Panel

Function: Electrical Operation and Control

The electrical control panel enables the operator to control the hydraulic system.

• Starts and stops the hydraulic power pack motor.
• Provides Press Close and Press Open commands.
• Supports manual or automatic operation, depending on the supplied configuration.
• Displays operating status and alarms when the relevant indicators or PLC/HMI are provided.
• Supports safe operation through the specified safety interlocks.

How Does the Filter Press Work?

• Plate Closing : The operator gives the Close command from the control panel. The hydraulic power pack supplies pressurized oil to the cylinder, which closes and clamps the filter plates.
• Slurry Feeding and Filtration : The feed pump delivers slurry into the closed filter press. Liquid passes through the filter cloth, while solid particles accumulate to form filter cake.
• Pressure Release : Once filtration is complete, slurry feeding stops and hydraulic pressure is released according to the operating sequence.
• Plate Opening : The hydraulic cylinder retracts and releases the plate pack, allowing the filter cake to be discharged.
• Next Cycle : After cake discharge and the required checks, the plates are closed again and the next filtration cycle begins.

Integrated Hydraulic System

The Electrical Control Panel sends the operating commands, the Hydraulic Power Pack generates controlled oil flow and pressure, and the Hydraulic Cylinder converts hydraulic pressure into mechanical movement and clamping force.

Together, these components provide controlled plate closing, reliable clamping, and smooth opening for efficient filter press operation.
